The 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe enters its third year of production and continues to compete with the likes of the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Nissan 370Z. A rear-wheel drive performance car was almost unfathomable for Hyundai a short time ago, but the continued success of the Genesis Coupe is a sign of the company’s resurgence over the last few years.
The Genesis Coupe lets you pick between two engines: a 210-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 306-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 engine. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but both engines can be mated to an optional electronic automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Higher trims will benefit from performance parts like a limited-slip differential, a Brembo® braking system, and bigger tires.
The two engines both offer plenty of performance. Opting for the more powerful V-6 will offer you better acceleration and top end speed, but it does drag down fuel efficiency. Fuel ratings range from 17-21 mpg in the city to 26-30 mpg on the highway, the larger figures coming with the four-cylinder engine.
